HEALTH RELATED BENEFITS

Group Health Insurance
The City of Iola is self-insured. Our health plan is administered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas. The City pays 100% of the premium for employee coverage. Family coverage is available for $100 per pay-period. Coverage begins the 1st of the month following the first full month of employment

Life Insurance
The City provides a $25,000 life policy for each employee, includung $5,000 on spouses and $2,000 on children at no cost to the employee. Coverage begins after 30 days. After 1 year of service, KPERS provides additional life insurance equal to 1.5 times your annual salary

Medical Savings Plan

Supplemental
The City offers employees a variety of AFLAC medical plans. Premiums are paid for by the employee through the convenience of payroll deduction handled by the City.
RETIREMENT BENEFITS

KPERS
After the first year of employment, all fulltime City employees are required to participate in the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System. The employee contributes 4% of their pre-tax salary and the City contributes 3.82%. Employees are fully vested after 10 years of fulltime service. KPERS manages your funds for you. The plan also includes LTD and life insurance equal to 1.5 times your annual salary.

ICMA
After 30 days, a voluntary 457 plan is available under the International City/County Management Association– Retirement Corporation. Provided you enroll, the City will contribute $260 per year and also match each dollar you invest up to another $240 each year. With ICMA-RC, you can manage your own funds on-line.
TIME OFF BENEFITS

Holidays
Except for Fire Department employees, the City recognizes 9.5 paid holidays and 2 paid personal days each year.

Vacation
Upon the date of employment, vacation time begins to accrue at the rate of 3.08 hours per pay-period. At this rate, employees accrue 10 days per year during the first 10 years. After 10 years service, the accrual changes to 15 days and after 20 years service to 20 days paid time off per year.

Sick Leave
With the exception of Police and Fire employees, fulltime employees accrue sick leave at the rate of 3.08 hours per pay-period for a total of 10 days paid time off per year. Hours can accumulate to a maximum of 960 hours (120 days). Police and Fire department employees have different accrual rates. Eligibility must meet certain guidelines.

Bereavement Leave
Employees are eligible for up to 5 days paid time off for immediate family members.
OTHER BENEFITS

Uniforms
To maintain a professional appearance and also protect your personal clothing, employees are provided a variety of uniforms, shirts, etc. at no cost.

Direct Deposit
For your convenience, the City can directly deposit your paycheck in 3 accounts.
