Recreation Department
The Iola Recreation Department headed by a Recreation Director, employs a Recreation Coordinator, assisted by an Office Receptionist, and 50 seasonal employees. The Recreation Department is responsible for organizing all recreation activities, including the Municipal Pool, and Concession Stands operations and staffing, and Ball Field Maintenance.

Youth Activities
Kid's Art Classes
Art classes, offered for different occasions throughout the year, at the Little Theater in the Recreation Community Building in Riverside Park. Ages 5-14 may participate. Registration fee. All supplies are provided.
Youth Basketball League
Play recreational basketball on age division teams. Enrollment begins in December and the season concludes in February. Grades 1 thru 6. Registration fee.
Youth Baseball and Softball Leagues
Play recreational baseball or softball on age division teams. Games are played during the week nights at the Riverside Park Ball Diamonds, 600 S. State, Iola. Enrollment begins in April and season concludes in July. Ages 5-16 may participate. Registration fee.
Coloring Contests
Year around, Complete one picture to enter per contest. Contests offered for different occasions throughout the year. Ages 12 and under may participate. Cost is free. Winners drawn weekly and prizes awarded from area sponsors.
Youth Girls Volleyball League
Play recreational volleyball on age division teams. Enrollment begins in October and the season concludes in December. Grades 3rd through 6th may participate.
Youth Flag Football League
Play recreational flag football on age division teams. Games played on Saturday mornings in the outfield of Baseball Diamond #3 in Riverside Park, Iola. Enrollment begins in August and season concludes in October. Grades 1st through 5th may participate. Registration fee.
Youth Footsall Soccer League
Play recreational indoor soccer on age division teams. Enrollment begins in October and the season concludes in December. Grades 1st through 10th may participate.
NFL Punt Pass and Kick
Annual event held in the outfield of Softball Diamond #2 in Riverside Park, Iola, during early fall. Winners in each age division will be determined by total distance of one punt, one pass and one kick. Ages 8 through 15 may participate. Cost is free. Top winners in each age division will advance to sectional competition.
Youth Soccer Leagues
Play recreational soccer on age division teams. Enrollment begins in February and the season concludes in May. Ages 5 through 8th grade may participate. Registration fee.
Swim Lessons
Public and private swimming lessons are offered at the Iola Municipal Swimming Pool, Riverside Park, Iola. Morning times available during the one week sessions throughout the summer. Ages 4 and older may participate. Registration fee. Progress through all levels of ability. An infant and parent class is also offered through our lesson program.
Tumblenastics
Tumbling classes offered at various times throughout the year for beginning to advanced tumblers Monday or Tuesday evenings at the Little Theater in the Recreation Community Building in Riverside Park. 55 minute class time.
