Recreation Department
The Iola Recreation Department headed by a Recreation Director, employs a Recreation Coordinator, assisted by an Office Receptionist, and 50 seasonal employees. The Recreation Department is responsible for organizing all recreation activities, including the Municipal Pool, and Concession Stands operations and staffing, and Ball Field Maintenance.

Activities for All Ages
Basic Dog Obedience Training
Train your dog to be happy, obedient and a good neighbor. Days and times vary depending on the time of year. All ages may participate
Bicycle Riding Group
Enjoy leisurely bike rides through town with expert supervision every Thursday evening. Meet at the Recreation Community Building North parking lot at 6:30 pm. All ages are welcome. Cost is free. Bring your own bike.
Chartered Bus Trips
Take a trip on a chartered bus to various locations. All ages are welcome. Cost varies per trip. Locations include Kemper Arena, New Theatre Restaurant and more.
Iola Community Dance
Come and listen, tap your feet or dance to the live music of the Bill Duling Band every 3rd Friday of each month at the North Community Building, 505 N. Buckeye, Iola. 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. All ages are welcome. Donation. Please bring a finger food to share. Contact: Bill Duling, 620-244-3596
Iola Municipal Swimming Pool
Daily swimming, weather permitting, at the Iola Municipal Swimming Pool in Riverside Park, Iola. The pool opens Memorial Day! Hours vary per day. All ages are welcome, 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Daily admission fees. Ticket books may be purchased at the Recreation Office in Riverside Park during regular business hours.
Kansas Old Time Pickers, Fiddlers and Singers
Musicians and music lovers are invited to listen or perform during monthly meeting times, the 3rd Sunday of each month. All ages may attend.
Karate Classes
Karate class for all skill levels on Tuesday evenings at the North Community Building, 505 N. Buckeye, Iola. 6:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. Ages 7 and older are welcome. Cost is free. Wear comfortable clothing. Contact: Harold Reibel, Instructor, 620-363-2924
Morning Walking
Morning walking is available Monday through Friday at the Recreation Community Building Gymnasium in Riverside Park during regular business hours, when no other activities are being held. Cost is free. All ages welcome.

Quilting Group

Riverside Horseshoe Club

Shocktober Halloween Carnival
Annual Halloween carnival at the Recreation Community Building Gymnasium, Riverside Park, Iola. Saturday evening before Halloween. All ages may participate. Tickets may be purchased the night of the carnival or in advance at the Recreation Office in the Recreation Community Building. Various games and activities include costume contests, cake walk, spook house, jack-o-lantern contest, bean bag toss, etc.
