Iola offers a wide variety of recreation facilities including golf courses, tennis courts, a classic drive-in theater, a country club, a public pool, a movie theater, paintball arena and more. Listed are just a sample of recreational activities in Iola.

Daily swimming, weather permitting, at the Iola Municipal Swimming Pool in Riverside Park, Iola. The pool opens Memorial Day! Hours vary per day. All ages are welcome, 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Daily admission fees. Ticket books may be purchased at the Recreation Office in Riverside Park during regular business hours.

Competitive swimming in SEK League. Practices Monday – Friday mornings at the Iola Municipal Swimming Pool, Riverside Park, Iola. Swim meets in Iola and out of town Wednesday evenings. Enrollment begins in May and season concludes in July. Ages 5 – 18 may participate. Registration fee. Swim suits, caps, goggles, etc. are an additional cost to participate.

Bicycle Riding Group

Enjoy leisurely bike rides through town with expert supervision every Thursday evening. Meet at the Recreation Community Building North parking lot at 6:30 pm. All ages are welcome. Cost is free. Bring your own bike.
Women’s Slow Pitch Softball League
Summer through Fall Months, Ages 18 and older

Form a team and play slow pitch softball. Games are played on Sunday evenings. Times determined on the number of participating teams. Ages 18 and older may participate. League fee. Post Season Tournament.
Water Exercise Classes
Summer Months, Ages 16 and older

Deep or shallow water exercise classes Monday through Thursday evenings at the Iola Municipal Swimming Pool, Riverside Park, Iola. A three week session that meets during the adult swim hour. Ages 16 and older may participate. Registration fee.
Swim Lessons
Summer Months, Ages 4 and older

Public and private swimming lessons are offered at the Iola Municipal Swimming Pool, Riverside Park, Iola. Morning times available during the one week sessions throughout the summer. Ages 4 and older may participate. Registration fee. Progress through all levels of ability. An infant and parent class is also offered through our lesson program.
Kickboxing Aerobics
Fall through Spring Months, Ages 18 and older

High energy aerobic exercise class that meets Monday through Thursday evenings at the Jefferson School Gymnasium, 300 S. Jefferson, Iola. 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Ages 18 and older may participate. Registration fee.
Recreational Flag Football League
Fall Months, Grades 3rd – 5th

Play recreational flag football on age division teams. Games played on Saturday mornings in the outfield of Baseball Diamond #3 in Riverside Park, Iola. Enrollment begins in September and season concludes in October. Grades 3rd – 5th may participate. Registration fee.
NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition
September, Ages 8 - 15

Annual event held in the outfield of Softball Diamond #2 in Riverside Park, Iola, during early fall. Winners in each age division will be determined by total distance of one punt, one pass and one kick. Ages 8 – 15 may participate. Cost is free. Top winners in each age division will advance to sectional competition.
Women’s Volleyball League
Fall Months, Ages 18 and older

Form a team and play volleyball. Games are played on Sunday evenings. Times determined on the number of participating teams. Ages 18 and older may participate. League fee. Post Season Tournament.
Shocktober Halloween Carnival
October, All ages

Annual Halloween carnival at the Recreation Community Building Gymnasium, Riverside Park, Iola. Saturday evening before Halloween. All ages may participate. Tickets may be purchased the night of the carnival or in advance at the Recreation Office in the Recreation Community Building. Various games and activities include costume contests, cake walk, spook house, jack-o-lantern contest, bean bag toss, etc.
Jingle Bell Jog
December, All ages

Annual event held on the North side of the Iola Town Square, N. Washington, Iola. 2.5 Mile Fun Run or 1 Mile Walk. The first Saturday in December. Race begins at 1:00 P.M. All ages are welcome. Registration fee. Register at the Recreation Office, Recreation Community Building, Riverside Park, Iola or at the band stand the day of. T-shirts and jingle bells will be given to each entrant.
