Iola Fire/EMS is the only agency in southeast Kansas to provide Fire, Emergency Medical Services, Rescue and Hazardous Materials response.  The combined services exist to protect lives, conserve property by minimizing the frequencies and effects of fire, accidents, illness, hazardous material releases, disasters, and other like occurrences.

The City of Iola utilizes a full-time staff of fire and emergency medical professionals to provide a 24-hour public safety services, which includes fire services within the Iola city limits and Rural Fire District #2.  The department also provides the emergency medical services and rescue services throughout Allen County.

Fire Services

Annually, the Fire Department responds to about 250 alarms, comprised of structure, vehicle and grass fires, the presence of smoke, carbon monoxide tests, etc. Response times in the City are just under 4 minutes, and average about 11 minutes for rural calls. The Fire Department provides:

  • Quality fire protection
  • Emergency rescue
  • Fire prevention education
  • Presentations and fire drills at schools and nursing homes
  • Station and equipment tours
  • Business, daycare, and school district building inspections
  • Disaster drill participation
  • Work with the SAFEBASE program

Emergency Medical Services

Providing ALS & BLS Ground Service for Allen County.

  • Maintenance and operation of four ambulance units
  • Response to over 1,800 EMS calls annually
  • Transfer of medical patients
  • Response to medical, motor vehicle and home related emergencies
  • Disaster drill participation
